Tanner Messer is a photographer from Asheville NC, who currently resides in Greensboro, North Carolina. In 2017, he graduated with a BFA in Photography from The University of North Carolina of Greensboro.

Tanner’s work addresses identity in ways that relate to gender, sexuality, and psychological issues. His photographs feature the use of himself to study the many personas he has created.

Studying these issues made him realize the complexity of the walls he had built up; his goal became to break down these walls through exploring his true self, veiled behind these layers. Not all of his work is based around the idea of veiling, but it is all influenced by it. There are many ways of perceiving this notion, so he feels it is his job as an artist to experiment. Join him in sifting through subjective layers of perception in order to find their interrelationships, bringing clarity to these scenarios through the use of symbolic references and, of course, light.

He is currently accepting freelance work upon request. CV available upon request.
